Two Portraits
I've been looking through some vintage photos, which are always a good source of inspiration.
bought a pad of black paper so I tried it out to exaggerate the intensity of the lighting. The drawing is done with Prismacolors. Not completely happy with it, but it was a fun exercise to start with the highlights, rather than my usual method of beginning with the shadows.
The second is back to graphite. I believe the reference photo was from the 1910s. It caught my eye because of the way she is nicely lit by the window, though I wish I had some softer pencils to darken some of the shadows.
Wow! These portraits each capture a mood. On the same page, they're like night and day. The blue on black is very dramatic and beautiful. The gray is soft and sweet. Nice work.
